About Carine and Jane
Carine Zimber
Carine began translating soon after she moved to Portland in 2002. Before that, her interest in writing and compulsive attention to detail and research had first led her to literary studies:
Carine earned her B.A. in French Literature at the University of Montpellier, France, before crossing the Atlantic to study Journalism at the University of Tennessee. She later left the Smoky Mountains for the smoggy highways of California and worked as a staff writer for the San Diego Community Newspaper Group, before eventually arriving in Portland.
As an Executive Secretary at The Portland French School, Carine translated educational material and course curriculum, and she also diversified her portfolio by working independently for local and international clients. Her areas of expertise now extend to vital records and visa applications, marketing material (in the domains of fashion, electronics, I.T. and more), software and software manual translation. She is a member of the Northwest Translators and Interpreters Society.
On sunny days, Carine enjoys exploring the diverse and beautiful landscapes of the Pacific Northwest by hiking, camping or canoeing with her family. When the rain comes she nestles at home — experimentally cooking, canning or planning the summer garden. She also enjoys a good book.
Jane Fabulet-Roberts
With a very complex and eclectic experience behind her, Jane undertakes projects with professionalism and passion.
Before moving to the United States, Jane studied French Literature with minors in English and Education (and started a multi-faceted career in live theater well before attending the Jacques Lecoq International School of Theatre in Paris). She has been teaching French and drama for many years.
Since moving to Portland in 2004, Jane has leveraged her eclectic background into a professional translation career. Having no trouble changing gears from a legal document for a non-profit organization to translation and phonetic transcription of an educational method (with voice over and video shooting), she always has a tool for the job. She is a member of the Northwest Translators and Interpreters Society.
In addition to translating, Jane teaches French at the Alliance Française of Portland and drama in different bilingual programs in Portland.
Jane feels at home in Oregon — not only because the PNW’s weather reminds her of her native Normandy, but because after much travel, Portland is the city she wants to live in. A true Portlander, Jane rides her bike everywhere rain or shine. With time she desires a deeper involvement in her community.
